Self Exploration

Self exploration has been the name of the game this week. Mentors and mentees have been working hard to identify the things that make up who they are. Not only are they learning about themselves but they have also done readings on self acceptance and the importance of being tolerant of other cultures. This week was in preparation for a large project that will be started next week.  Students will make aa identity mask, expressing the side of them that they share with the world and on the inside of the mask they will express their true identity.

Bio Poems

A Bio poem is a piece of writing that helps students express specific aspects of themselves. All of the students in YESS at North had to complete one of these poems. Here is an example of a Bio poem from one of our Engagement Center seniors Jasmene Rodriguez:

Jasmene
Creative, Zesty, and Original.
Daughter of a hardworking man.
Has an eye for fashion, a love for designing, and a pride for being original.
Feels overwhelmed, stressed, and helpless.
Fears growing up, paying for college, and the future.
Competed as a student designer in the goodwill fashion show, traveled Europe, and interned at Goldyn Boutique.
Hopes to see one's own clothing line, dad happy, and a comfortable lifestyle in the future.
Born and raised in the mile high.
